I have been a member of the parish for over 20 years, although it seems like yesterday when I discovered this multi-cultural community of faith. It so reminded me of my former two parishes in the District of Columbia where I was raised and lived until moving to Silver Spring. I am indebted to the members of the Sodality. Through the Sodality’s Spiritual Life, I have grown in my faith and in my love and devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary. Through participating in the Sodality’s Apostolic Life, I have had an opportunity to help make an impact of service.
I have worked as a member in the Sodality, as well as served in officer positions, always striving (imperfectly) to follow the holy and humble model of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as the stellar example of those Sodalists whom I witnessed. Over the years, I have helped to organize the annual Sodality Communion Brunch to honor Mary in May. I have joined in the Sodality's service efforts, including the Backpacks for Our Parish Children and clothing and household goods drives. Also, I regularly served in hosting the Sodality's fundraiser Hot Dog, Pizza, and Bake Sales.
In another role, I thoroughly enjoy and treasure assisting at Mass as lector. It is a way for me to make a return to the Lord and serve His people. Further, in preparation and proclaiming the Word, I receive much spiritual nourishment. Additionally, I have gained a deeper knowledge of the scriptures through regular participation for several years in Deacon Ealey's superb weekly Bible Study. I hope to return to this gathering in the future. In my distant past at my previous parishes, I completed the Education for Parish Service (EPS) program at Trinity College, taught in the CCD program, and, of course, served as a lector each month. I hope that through the Lord's goodness to me over the years, I can contribute more to St. Michael the Archangel parish and encourage many others to become a part of its diverse richness.
