Jacquelyn (Jackye) E. Flowers of Silver Spring, MD, departed this life on Thursday, June 3, 2021.
Jackye was born October 31, 1950, in Reading, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Robert L. Flowers, Sr., and Katherine E. (Evans) Richardson, and the stepdaughter of George L. Richardson.
Jackye graduated from Father Bertrand High School in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968; received her B.S. degree in Psychology in 1973 and Masters in Public Administration in 1974 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she was also a charter member of Zeta Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (1970).
She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1979 and became a Field Program Specialist for the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). From 1989-1990, Jackye became the Literacy Program Consultant for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments/Literacy Network leading the region-wide adult literacy initiative. She was also a Regional Finalist for the White House Fellowships in 1990-1991, under President George W. Bush.
Prior to her death, Jackye was the President of INSPIRING DIMENSIONS, INC., an international motivational speaking and training firm she created in 1984, as well as, an Adjunct Faculty member of the Graduate School, USA.
Long before she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, Jackye was committed to research, education, prevention, and finding a cure for the disease. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, international travel, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and a multitude of other craft projects as well as cooking, and entertaining friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Flowers, Sr., mother, Katherine E. (Evans) Richardson, stepfather, George L. Richardson, and brother, Robert L. Flowers, Jr. She is survived by one sister, Bettye K. Paige. Jackye is also survived by two nieces, two nephews, eleven great nieces and great-nephews, one great-great nephew, two godchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Friends and relatives may call at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 805 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring, MD on Saturday, June 12, 2021, from 9- 10 am where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
