Job Announcement DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION St. Michael the Archangel Parish
The mission of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is to spread the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the St. Michael the Archangel is seeking a Director of Religious Education.
The Director of Religious Education will:
Identify, train, supervise and support catechists and catechetical aides.
Perform administrative tasks necessary for the orderly operation of the program.
Secure speakers for a monthly parent discussion.
Identify and execute service projects for faith formation families.
Conduct catechetical meetings for parents of children in sacramental programs.
Coordinate sacramental preparation for children in the religious education program and in the school.
Direct program for “out of sequence” children who need sacraments.
Direct the children’s liturgy program on Sunday mornings.
Maintain a cordial relationship with the parish and school staffs.
Collaborate with the youth minister to provide a good, continuous religious education program.
Meet with the pastor weekly and work directly under his direction.
Special Events:
Plan and direct a summer Vacation Bible School.
Direct the Christmas pageant at the Christmas Eve Mass.
Assist in the annual ministry day and May Procession.
Major Qualifications:
Theology
Program Design & Coordination
Coordination of Catechetical Development, in particular Faith Foundation & Living Catholic
Highly Developed Communicative and Human Relations Skills
Administration & Supervisory Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Catholic Theology, Religious Studies or Religious Education. In the absence of an academic degree, the DRE must demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.
Active, participating Catholic whose lifestyle is consistent with the Catholic Church.
Ability to communicate in English and Spanish
